Hi to everybody!

A litle something about me, Ive never been fit but i always could perform a bit better then averege without previous training in any sport so i never trained:?

in 2002 i crashed my bike and broke my hip and since then ive had 3 surgerys , in result having a very poor fit level and through the effort to recovery ive now have somewhat become fond of exercising and the feeling of getting fitter

The main thing is that i shoud not put stress on my hip so i swimm, but swimming everyday seems to be to much , after 3 weeks or so of consistent training i feel beat up. I swimm 2.1km IM
A month ago i tried handstand training and somehow led me to rings, what i want to do (all ideas welcome) is to split throuout the week my workouts.

I made a plan and started monday with an ambisious 3,4km IM at the pool, i did it but it killed my hip muscles on my 'bad' hip and im in some pain now.
1,5 year has passed since the surgery and im still recovering but i think its ok since when i went into surgery my hip muscles had atrophyed, a month ago i started taking protein powder suplement to compensate the massive(in my oppinion) tissue damage in the hip muscles when exercising, im getting better but because the rest of my body says go go i cant find the limit :( and go over it , Has anyone experience anything like it? any advice welcome!
So enter the rings! upper body build super exersice without streesing the lower limbs(if you know any exersice to work them out without puting weight on the femur that would be great!)

The rings are just overwhelming i tried the icecream maker and after a couple of 1lifts i was sore on my chest and arms , they kick ass!

Any comment what so ever is welcome ive also started the zone diet to get lean and make everything easier
Any question about mounting the rings is also welcome!

Thanks!

how much weight can those hooks support? i was thinking about doing that. currently i have my rings hanging from 2 2x4's spanning the opening to my pulldown attic. i'm not particularly fond of the setup, since it doesn't give me the greatest amount of room.

i dont know exactly how much weight they can support but im guessing up to 100kg(easy) ive used all of my weight in one (80kg) it took it fine the ones i used were 12mm plug&drill and something less on the screw 160-170mm long which is very important for strenth and the eye which is free moving so there is no ftiction on the harness is 60mm

Messure , drill deep insert the plugs as deep and scew they eyebolts full in
If you dont know exactly were the power cables on the ceiling go through dont drill!
If your are not sure or have the proper equipment call a proffesional

If all else fails, you can mount them to a pull-up bar. For me I'm in an apartment so it's my only option, besides going to the park, etc.. Here's how mine looks (sorry for the crappy picture - webcam lol).

Question on concrete ceiling mounting

Postby SteveB on Tue Feb 12, 2008 10:06 pm

I'm setting up my rings in the garage, which has a fairly low ceiling. My setting options appear to be:

1. Drill holes into the concrete ceiling and fit a couple of eye-bolts with shield anchors - something along the lines of http://www.protecdirect.co.uk/Eye-Bolts ... lt-M12.htm - most posts don't seem to rate this as being particularly reliable or safe;

or

2. Fit some sort of clamp device to the steel I-beams - my beams are 20.7cm/8.15 inches across and I've got about 5cm/1.97 inches of clearance above before the concrete ceiling. The most secure appear to be adjustable girder clamps designed for hoisting - along these lines:
http://www.superclamp.co.uk/girder_clam ... clamps.cfm or http://www.superclamp.co.uk/girder_clam ... clamps.cfm

but these generally appear to be quite expensive (around ?58 each). The other suggestion I've read on the posts is to fit a G-clamp on the beams, but no idea if this would be safe or secure enough.

Would welcome any ideas on cheaper (but safer) alternatives in the UK.

I went for the eye-bolt option as well, and I assure you it's quite safe. I can hang myself from each ring individually and it holds my weight without a problem (right now I'm around 82Kg), and they have done so ever since I first set them up (about a year ago).

Those eye-bolts really dig in to the concrete once you set them up, and they're almost impossible to dislodge! However I think you will need slightly thicker ones than the ones you provided the link to...

I took a couple of quick pics of my setup:

Hope this helps!

+1 for the eye bolts. its not what im using, but drilling into a ceiling that doesnt belong to me wasnt really an option.

Thanks for the advice. What diameter bolt did you use in your set up in the photos?

SteveB

To be honest I'm not sure... the only thing it says on the bolts is "88", but I'm not sure what that stands for (definitely not 88mm). I measured their diameter by hand and it's around ~45mm.

88 is the strength of the metal used. 88 is really strong.

My set-up:

Image

Parts:

* M8 Eyebolts (I was unable to find M10 Eyebolts, but M8 is more than
enough)
* Carabiners (for portability, I don't want the rings hanging in the middle of
my room all the time. They support up to 250 kilogram each)

I used a 14mm drill, which I rented from Hilti (TE25 Rotary Hammer)
Then I just twisted the eyebolts in.
They won't come out anymore, so I was given the advice to drill deeper
than necessary, so when the bolts can be punched into the ceiling when I
don't need it anymore....

Is that pull up bar stable with rings.

And for the people of ceiling mount, how do you know the cealing is hard enough, my problem is not with the strengh of the eyebolts to fall but of a piece of ceiling with the eyebolts?[/quote]

How far apart did you set them up? Should be 50cm (~19.7 inches)... in the photo it looks much more than that...

@batuba: The building I live in was constructed in the early 80s, and I was
told that the ceilings are made of pure concrete.
Hard to get in but also hard to get out (or so I hope)

@roman: I measured 50cm... the photo has a weird perspective, but if you
look at the size of the buckle, you'll see it in better proportion...
