Clubbell Training for Circular Strength

by Scott Sonnon

Clubbells are the latest in a revival of ancient strength training methods for the modern athlete. This video is a necessary companion for every owner of a Clubbell or anyone interested in Clubbell training. There are many safety and performance considerations that might slip past the casual trainee. Fortunately, this video does an excellent job of explaining why certain safety precautions must be made and by demonstrating the proper form for each lift.

I didn't count the number of exercises demonstrated, but there is a great variety of drills presented here. In addition to swings and snatches, staple moves of circular strength training include casts and pendulums. One of the unique things about casts is that the movement is initiated from the center of your body, recruiting outwards towards the peripheral muscles. Very unique! The pendulums and other circular movements are also very brutal looking and guaranteed to fry your grip and expand your functional range of motion. Scott does a good job of demonstrating these on the video and showing them from multiple angles. One of the coolest parts of the video comes at the end when Scott demonstrates some traditional exercise combos. These should become very popular with experienced trainees.

Coach Sonnon,
My clubbell video arrived today and immediately went into
the VCR. The video is excellent - detailed, and easy to
learn from and your presentation is well done.
Now I am really itching to start swinging!
The casts and other related moves look very demanding.
I can readily see and cannot wait to experience the circular strength component of the Clubbell.

The production quality of the video is very good. There are no frills here, just what is necessary and expedient for getting the message across. Scott's presentation skills are excellent, if you have seen any of his videos before, then you know what I mean. There is some background music, but it cuts out when Coach Sonnon is speaking. The only problem with the video was that at times the camera was zoomed in a bit too tight. For example, during a snatch, as the bell is about to leave the screen the video cuts into a close-up of Scott's hand. It is not a big deal, and doesn't hinder the learning process, but it would have been better to have a few shots with a wider frame.

In conclusion, this video is a must-have for anyone that wants to approach Clubbell training with maximum safety and effectiveness. If you are unsure if Clubbell training is right for you, pick up a copy of this video and be amazed by the depth and variety of Circular Strength Training.
